Beam-Suntory-owned Japanese whisky marque Hibiki can now add another accolade into its repertoire after its Hibiki 21 Years Old premium bottling was named as the International Spirits Challenge’s (ISC) Supreme Champion Spirit for 2017 last week.
The annual award, which celebrates its 22nd edition this year, saw the Japanese contender go against 27 other trophy-winning spirits that were re-tasted blind by category chairmen who voted the Hibiki 21 Years Old as the overall champion.
The revered Japanese whisky triumphed over of the 1,480 other spirits that competed in the awards this year. Not only Japan’s most highly awarded blended whisky, Hibiki also stands amongst the most prestigious whiskies in the world.
Besides that, the Hibiki 21 Years Old bottling also garnered a “Trophy” award (best-in-category) in the “World Whisky” category while its maker Suntory Spirits received recognition as “World Whisky Producer of the Year.”
According to Suntory Spirits, the Hibiki 21 Years Old bottling was made using a blend of rare and meticulously selected mature malt and grain whiskies aged over 21 years. It boasts aromas of sweet dried fruit and a spicy flavour that’s characterised by a solemn, refined richness and profound, lingering echoes.
