Gruppo Campari hails strong Q1 sales growth

If you’ve never heard of Gruppo Campari, then here’s something you ought to know. The list of spirits brands owned by the Italian group covers more than 50 names and it includes the likes of Campari, Wild Turkey, Skyy Vodka, Glen Grant and Aperol.

On that note, it becomes rather surprising to see the group chart healthy sales growth for the first quarter (Q1) of 2017. In a recently issued press statement, the Milan-based firm noted a 15% increase in sales totalling at €376.6 million (US$409.8m) in said period.

Prior to this, Gruppo Campari already saw its full-year sales grow by 4.2% in 2016, Strong performances from its core portfolio of global and regional priority brands bolstered this.

The American market – the group’s biggest market – drove a huge chunk of its Q1 sales and grew by 30.7% too. Sales increases were also noted in the European and Asian markets where it grew by 12.1% and 9.8% respectively.

Other notable activities in Q1 included the recent acquisition of the Bulldog Gin brand (pictured above). The premium gin marque was added into the  already vast Gruppo Campari brand collection for a reported sum of US$58.4 million back in February.

“We had a good start to 2017, delivering results in line with expectations in a low seasonality quarter,” said the group’s CEO Bob Kunze-Concewitz in regards to this.
